Cambodia 2011: Touching Base

We’re astonished at how much support we’ve received from our customers since our last email announcing Ensar’s going organic!

We’ve arrived at our first stop, Cambodia, and will be visiting plantations across the countryside over the next few weeks, before heading out to meet with farmers and distillers throughout the Far East, from Laos to Thailand, to Borneo and Malaysia, with plenty of stopovers along the way.

All to discuss the future of Oud.

Cambodia was one of the first places to see wild agarwood go extinct, so cultivation has taken root earlier than in other parts. But the Oud currently being produced leaves a lot to be desired – something we intend to change.

We got the ball rolling on our last trip to the Far East, where we asked distillers to try some new things. This time around, we’re seeing how their efforts turned out.

Agarwood cultivation is very different from ordinary cultivation. The process by which the tree produces its fragrant resin is a sheer miracle, and trying to replicate what happens in the wild in a plantation is a very delicate affair, but one that shows much promise.

We’ll keep you posted with developments in organic agarwood cultivation, its pros and cons, and how we can take things forward.

All oils in our Organic Oud collection are currently on sale. Every dollar you spend on these oils will go directly toward promoting agarwood cultivation efforts.

Much of the improvements we’ve put in place can be directly linked to customer feedback, so we greatly value your input and support. Please keep it coming!
